There are millions of people in this world that feel immediate fear just at the thought of spiders. Even though the majority of them are small, these creepy-looking creatures have been the star of many nightmares for centuries. Luckily, not every spider in this area can harm you and your family.

At Gecko Pest Control, our Longview pest control specialists know how to identify dangerous spiders as well as eliminate all spiders from your home.

The Two Types Of Dangerous Spiders Found In Longview

There is good news and bad news when it comes to the spiders in Longview. The bad news is that there are over 900 species of spiders in Texas alone. The good news is that the majority of these spiders are completely harmless. In fact, there are only two types of spiders in this area that are considered to be dangerous to humans.

The brown recluse is one of the more common venomous spiders in this area. It has a small, light brown body, usually measuring between 1/4  and 1/2 inches long. It has a thin body and thin legs. One of the most distinguishing features of the brown recluse is its dark-colored marking that is shaped like a violin. The marking is located on its back, and the "neck" of the violin mark is pointing towards the brown spider's back. Because of this unique marking, the brown recluse is often called the "fiddle back spider."

The black widow spider is the other dangerous spider in this area. The female black widow and the male black widow have two completely different looks. This black widow is about 1 ½ inches long and has a shiny black body with a red hourglass-shaped mark underneath its abdomen. The male black widow is usually smaller, brown, and has orange markings on its body. The female black widow is the only one that is considered to be dangerous.

The Side Effects Of Being Bitten By A Dangerous Spider

If you are bitten by a brown recluse or a female black widow spider, some of the symptoms that you may suffer include:

  • Painful swelling around the bite site
  • Pain that continues to become more severe during the first eight hours
  • swelling
  • Muscle cramps
  • Muscle spasms
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Tremors

The venom in a brown recluse bite is known to kill the skin tissue on your body. At first, the bite may look like an open wound. However, over the course of a week, the wound will start to get bigger, and the skin around it will turn a dark purple or black color. If you notice this or any other symptoms listed above, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

"Ryan did a very thorough job in spraying around the house. He walked the exterior of the house with me to learn my specific needs. He was even very helpful to help move the humming bird feeders before this initial spray.  Daren was also very informative I’m explaining the services.  They were able to come out the day I called and were prompt arriving."
